Start Snacking Smart!!!!
Snacking is a very overlooked and underestimated part of people’s diet. In the past snacking has received a bad rap because majority of the time when someone is eating a snack it was something they grabbed last minute and high in sugar. When someone is looking to start a healthier diet the first thing I tell them is you have to plan ahead and the same thing goes for snacking. The most successful snacks are going to be something that can be thrown in a purse or gym bag all day and not go bad. So first, think of food that is portable and doesn’t need a refrigerator or a microwave. Second, think of not just eating one macronutrient try to have 2 or 3 macronutrients within one snack. Having a balanced snack will leave you feeling full for a longer period of time. Third, I want you to be very careful with pre-packaged snacks, especially different kinds of bars. Many of the cereal/protein bars have added sugar and very little nutrition value. Last, but not least, don’t let yourself get hungry; when we are starving we make bad decisions. As soon as you start to notice you’re getting hungry grab your snack and chow down.
